Hücre potensi
Hücre potensi, bir hücrenin diğer hücre tiplerine ayırma kabiliyetidir. Bir hücre ne kadar çok hücre türünü ayırt ederse, o kadar güçlü olur. Potensyon, aynı zamanda, bir hücre gibi, bir süreklilik gibi, en farklılaşma potansiyeline, çoğulculuğa, çok potansiyeli, oligopotansiyete ve nihayet tek kutuplu bir hücreye totipotenslikle başlayan gen aktivasyon potansiyeli olarak tarif edilir. Güç, "güç sahibi olma" anlamına gelen "potens" Latince teriminden alınır. Pluripotent, embriyonik kök hücreler bir blastokist içindeki iç kütle hücrelerinden kaynaklanır. Bu kök hücreler, plasenta hariç vücuttaki herhangi bir doku olabilir. Sadece morula hücreleri totipotenttir, tüm dokulara ve plasentaya dönüşebilirler.
