Batı dünyası ve Batı olarak da bilinen Batı dünyası, bağlama bağlı olarak farklı uluslara atıf yapan bir terimdir. Hepsinin ortak noktası hakkında birçok kabul edilmiş tanım vardır. Dünyanın batı kısmı kavramı, Avrupa'daki Greko-Romen uygarlığına ve Hıristiyanlığın ortaya çıkışına dayanır. Modern çağda, Batı kültürü, Rönesans, Protestan Reformasyon, Aydınlanma Çağı'nın geleneklerinden çok etkilenmiştir ve 15.-20. Yüzyılın geniş sömürgeciliği tarafından şekillendirilmiştir. Soğuk Savaş döneminden önce geleneksel Batı görüşü Batı Uygarlığını Batı Hıristiyan ülkeleri ve kültürü ile tanımladı. Siyasi kullanımı 20. yüzyılın ortalarından sonuna doğru Soğuk Savaş döneminde yaşanan karşıtlık yüzünden geçici olarak değişti. Bu terimin aslen anlamıyla coğrafi anlamı vardı. Avrupa'yı, Orta Doğu ve Kuzey Afrika, Güney Asya, Güneydoğu Asya ve uzakdoğu'nun, erken modern Avrupalıların Doğu olarak gördüğü bağlı kültürler ve medeniyetlerle tezat oluşturuyordu.
