Windage, hava ile cisim arasında göreli bir hareket olduğunda sürtünme ile bir cisim üzerinde yaratılan bir kuvvettir. Rüzgarın iki nedeni vardır: ▪ Nesneler havadan dirençle hareket ediyor ve yavaşlıyor. ▪ Nesneye bir kuvvet üfleyen bir rüzgar esiyor. Terim aşağıdakilere atıfta bulunabilir: ▪ Kuvvetin etkisi, örneğin bir füze veya bir uçağın çapraz rüzgarla saptırılması ▪ Sürtünmeye duyarlı hale getiren nesnenin alanı ve şekli, örneğin bir teknenin rüzgara maruz kalır Aerodinamik akıcılık, rüzgarı azaltmak için kullanılabilir. Windage'e benzer bir hidrodinamik etki vardır. Ateşli silahlar sözlüğünde, rüzgar, hedefleme noktasının yatay bileşenini değiştirmek için kullanılan bir görüşün yan yana ayarlanmasını ifade eder. Buna karşılık, dikey bileşen için yukarıdan aşağıya ayarlama, yüksekliktir. Özellikle tüfek ve toplarda, delik ve atış arasındaki çap farkına da işaret edebilir.
