vaftiz
Vaftiz genellikle Hıristiyanlık, Mandaadizm ve Sihizm gibi birçok din tarafından uygulanan su yardım ritüelini ifade eder. Hıristiyan vaftiz Yahudi hayırlarından biri olan mikvadan gelir. Vaftiz kelimesi, "daldırma, banyo yapma veya yıkama" anlamının altındaki Yunanca "βάπτειν" kelimesinden türemiştir. Dini inançları olan bazı gruplar için, vaftiz töreni tamamen suya daldırılmasıyla aynı şeydir, böylece su bitmiştir. Öte yandan, diğer gruplar için vaftiz sembolik bir terimdir "ile ilişkilendirmek" anlamına gelir ve sıradan hayır işleriyle ilgisi yoktur.
