Spermacet, sperm yağı, balina yağı, başta gerbil - yarı sıvı madde, sağ burun boşluğu öksürük gemisinde. Esas olarak palmitat ve setil alkol esterlerinden oluşur. Spermacet'in sıvı kıvamı, hayvan vücudunun sıcaklığında yalnızca spermin iç kısmını korur. Hava ile teması üzerine durgunlaşır. Spermacet mumlar, merhemler, kremler, ilaçlar, boya kalemi ve hatta mürekkeple hazırlandı. Bu yağ, on dokuzuncu yüzyılda ve yirminci yüzyılın başlarında en iyi makine yağıydı. Zamanla, bitkisel ve sentetik yağlarla değiştirildi. Halen ilaç endüstrisinde kullanılıyor. Büyük bir sperm ile 2 tona kadar spermasetik yağ elde edebilirsiniz. Z czasem został zastąpiony olejami roślinnymi i syntetycznymi. Obecnie stosowany jest w przemyśle farmaceutycznym. Z dużego kaszalota można uzyskać nawet 2 tony oleju spermacetowego. Spermacet to jedna z wielu substancji pozyskiwanych przez wielorybników. Innymi są ambra, fiszbiny, olej, mięso, kości.
