Couvade
Couvade - це термін, який створив антрополог Е.Б. Тайлор в 1865 р. Посилається на певні обряди батьків у декількох культурах, прийнятих під час вагітності. Термін "couvade" запозичений з французької мови; використання в сучасному розумінні випливає з нерозуміння колишньої ідіоми faire la couvade, що означало "сидіти нічого не робити". Наприклад, у людей Кантабрі було звичаї, в якому батько під час або одразу після народження дитини лежав на ліжко, поскаржився на страждання болем у праці, і їм надавалося лікування, яке зазвичай показали жінкам під час вагітності або після пологів. Точно так само в Папуа-Новій Гвінеї батьки побудували хижину за межами села і відбивали болі від праці до народження дитини.
