У мовознавстві демонстрації часто є деістичними словами, які вказують на ті об'єкти, до яких спікер посилається та відрізняє ці сутності від інших. Демонстрації застосовуються для просторового деіксісу, але також і в інтерпретації дискурсу - так званий "диксис деіксіс" або анафора, де значення залежить від іншого, ніж відносне фізичне розташування динаміка, наприклад, чи є щось зараз сказане або було сказано раніше. Демонстранти на англійській мові - це те, що ці, ті, архаїчні йон та речі, а також той, який заміщує займенник тим чи іншим.
