Нормальний режим
Нормальний режим осциляційної системи є схемою руху, в якій всі частини системи рухаються синусоїдально з тією ж частотою і з фіксованим фазовим співвідношенням. Рух, який описується звичайними режимами, називається резонансом. Частоти нормальних режимів системи відомі як його природні частоти або резонансні частоти. Фізичний об'єкт, наприклад будівля, міст або молекула, має набір нормальних режимів, які залежать від його структури, матеріалів та граничних умов. Коли мова йде про музику, звичайні режими вібраційних інструментів називаються "гармонікою" або "обертонами". Найбільш загальним рухом системи є суперпозиція його нормальних режимів. Режими є нормальними в тому сенсі, що вони можуть рухатися незалежно, тобто, збудження одного режиму ніколи не призведе до руху іншого режиму. У математичному плані нормальний режим є ортогональним один до одного. Концепція нормальних режимів також знаходить застосування у хвильовій теорії, оптиці, квантовій механіці та молекулярній динаміці.
