Ідеалізація
Ідеалізація - це процес, за допомогою якого наукові моделі приймають факти про моделюване явище, що є суворо помилковими, а моделі легше зрозуміти і вирішити. Тобто визначається, чи є феномен наближеним до "ідеального випадку", тоді модель застосовується для того, щоб зробити прогноз на основі цього ідеального випадку. Якщо апроксимація буде точною, модель буде мати високу точність прогнозування; наприклад, зазвичай не потрібно враховувати опір повітря при визначенні прискорення падіння боулінгу, і це буде складніше. У цьому випадку опір повітря ідеалізується рівним нулю. Хоча це не суворо істинно, це гарне наближення, оскільки його ефект незначний порівняно з гравітацією. Ідеалізація може дозволити прогнозування, коли ніхто інакше не може бути. Наприклад, апроксимація опору повітря як нуль була єдиним варіантом, перш ніж формулювання закону Стокса дозволило розрахувати сили опору.
