Рибінське водосховище
Рибінське водосховище, неофіційно назване Рибінським морем, є водосховищем на річці Волга і його притоках Шексна і Молога, сформована Рибінською гідроелектростанцією, розташованою на території Тверської, Вологодської та Ярославської областей. На момент його будівництва це було найбільшим штучним водойм на Землі. Це сама північна точка Волги. Тут починається Волго-Балтійський водний шлях. Основними портами є Череповець у Вологодській області та Восейгонськ у Тверській області. Будівництво дамби в Рибінську почалося в 1935 році. Наповнення водосховища розпочалося 14 квітня 1941 року і тривало до 1947 року. Близько 150 тисяч людей мусили бути переселеними в інше місце, а також історичне місто Молога в Ярославській області разом з 663 сіл повністю зникли під водою. Проте останнім часом воно все більше розглядається як типовий приклад сталінізму за його нехтування інтересами місцевого населення, якого торкнувся проект. Сьогодні дамба менш важлива для електропостачання, ніж це було раніше, і повторюється екологічний збиток, спричинений резервуаром.
