Nelson Algren
Nelson Algren war ein amerikanischer Schriftsteller. Er kann am besten für den Mann mit dem Goldenen Arm bekannt sein, ein 1949er Roman, der den National Book Award gewann und als 1955 gleichnamiger Film angepasst wurde. Nach Harold Augenbraum, "in den späten 1940er und frühen 1950er Jahren war er einer der bekanntesten literarischen Schriftsteller in Amerika." Der Liebhaber des französischen Schriftstellers Simone de Beauvoir, wurde er als Held ihres Romans The Mandarins, in Paris und Chicago. Er gilt als "ein Barde des Down-and-Outs", basierend auf diesem Buch und seinem Roman A Walk on the Wild Side. Letzteres wurde als gleichnamiges Stück angepasst, 195x auf dem Broadway produziert. Sein Ruhm stieg mit Lou Reeds Lied mit dem gleichen Namen. Titel.
