Niels Bohrs Modell des Atoms machte eine Analogie zwischen dem Atom und dem Sonnensystem. Analogie spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Problemlösung wie Entscheidungsfindung, Wahrnehmung, Gedächtnis, Kreativität, Emotion, Erklärung und Kommunikation. Es liegt hinter grundlegenden Aufgaben wie der Identifikation von Orten, Objekten und Menschen, zum Beispiel in Gesichts-Wahrnehmung und Gesichtserkennung Systeme. Es wurde argumentiert, dass Analogie "der Kern der Kognition" ist.
