Eine Armee (aus lateinischen arma "Waffen, Waffen" über alte französische Armee, "bewaffnet" (feminin)), ist eine Kampfkraft, die vor allem auf dem Land kämpft. Im weitesten Sinne ist es der landgestützte Militärzweig, Dienstleistungszweig oder bewaffneter Dienst einer Nation oder eines Staates. Es kann auch andere Zweige des Militärs wie die Luftwaffe über Mittel des Luftfahrtkorps enthalten. Innerhalb einer nationalen militärischen Kraft kann das Wort Armee auch eine Feldarmee bedeuten. Sie unterscheiden sich von Armeereserven, die nur in solchen Zeiten wie Krieg oder Naturkatastrophen aktiviert werden. In mehreren Ländern wird die Armee offiziell die Landarmee genannt, um sie von einer Luftwaffe zu nennen, die die Air Army genannt wird, vor allem Frankreich. In solchen Ländern behält das Wort "Armee" auf eigene Faust seine Konnotation einer Landeskraft im gemeinsamen Gebrauch. Die derzeit größte Armee der Welt, nach zahlreichen aktiven Truppen, ist die Volksbefreiungsarmee von China mit 2.250.000 aktiven Truppen und 800.000 Reservepersonal, gefolgt von der indischen Armee mit 1.129.000 aktiven Truppen und 2.142.900 Reservepersonal.
