Der Ursprung des Begriffs arris ist aus dem lateinischen 'arista' den Bart eines Ohres von Getreide oder der Knochen eines Fisches. Arris-Schienen sind in der Regel aus Holz gefertigt und werden durch Schneiden einer Länge von quadratischen Holz in Längsrichtung diagonal hergestellt. Sie werden für Strukturen verwendet, die eine rechtwinklige Verbindung von zwei Hölzern erfordern; Zum Beispiel die Verbindung von Holzpfosten und Balken.
