Dugong
Der Dugong ist ein großes Meeressäugetier, das zusammen mit den Manatis eine von vier lebenden Arten der Ordnung Sirenia ist. Es ist der einzige lebende Vertreter der einst vielfältigen Familie Dugongidae; Seine engste moderne Verwandte, Stellers Seekuh, wurde im 18. Jahrhundert zum Aussterben gejagt. Es ist auch der einzige Sirenier in seinem Bereich, der die Gewässer von mindestens 37 Ländern im Indo-Pazifik überspannt, obwohl die Mehrheit der Dugongs in den nördlichen Gewässern von Australien zwischen Shark Bay und Moreton Bay leben.
