Epikurus
Epikur war ein alter griechischer Philosoph sowie der Begründer der Schule der Philosophie namens Epikureismus. Nur wenige Fragmente und Briefe von Epikurs 300 geschriebenen Werken bleiben erhalten. Vieles von dem, was über die epikureische Philosophie bekannt ist, stammt von späteren Anhängern und Kommentatoren. Für Epikur war der Zweck der Philosophie, das glückliche, ruhige Leben zu erlangen, das durch Ataraxie-Frieden und Freiheit von Furcht und Aponie - die Abwesenheit von Schmerz - gekennzeichnet war, und indem sie ein autarkes Leben lebten, das von Freunden umgeben war. Er lehrte dieses Vergnügen und Schmerz sind die Maßnahmen dessen, was gut und böse ist; Der Tod ist das Ende von Körper und Seele und sollte daher nicht gefürchtet werden; Die Götter belohnen und bestrafen nicht die Menschen; Das Universum ist unendlich und ewig; Und Ereignisse in der Welt basieren letztlich auf den Bewegungen und Wechselwirkungen von Atomen, die sich im leeren Raum bewegen.
