Epode
Epode, in Vers, ist der dritte Teil einer Ode, die der Strophe und der Antistrophe folgte und die Bewegung vervollständigte. Zu einem gewissen Zeitpunkt kamen die Chöre, die zuvor direkt vor dem Altar oder der Bühne gesungen hatten, und dann links davon, zusammen und sang im Einklang, oder erlaubte dem Coryphaeus, für sie alle zu singen, während er in der Mitte stand. Mit dem Auftreten von Stesichorus und der Entwicklung der Chorlyrik begann in Griechenland eine gelehrte und künstliche Poesie zu kultivieren, und eine neue Form, das Epode-Lied, entstand. Es bestand aus einem Vers des iambischen Trimeters, gefolgt von einem Vers von iambischem Dimeter, und es wird berichtet, dass, obwohl die Epode zu seiner höchsten Vollendung von Stesichorus getragen wurde, ein früherer Dichter, Archilochus, wirklich der Erfinder dieser Form war. Die Episode nahm bald einen festen Platz in der Chor Poesie, die es verloren, wenn dieser Zweig der Literatur abgelehnt. Aber es erstreckte sich über die Ode hinaus, und in den frühen Dramatikern finden wir zahlreiche Beispiele von Monologen und Dialogen, die auf dem epodischen System umrahmt sind. In der lateinischen Poesie wurde die Epode im bewussten Archaismus sowohl als Teil der Ode als auch als eigenständiger Zweig der Poesie kultiviert.
