Extraposition
Extraposition ist ein Mechanismus der Syntax, der die Wortordnung so verändert, dass ein relativ "schwerer" Bestandteil rechts von seiner kanonischen Position erscheint. Das Extraposieren eines Bestandteils führt zu einer Diskontinuität und in dieser Hinsicht ist es im Gegensatz zu einer Verschiebung, die keine Diskontinuität erzeugt. Der extrahierte Bestandteil wird von seinem Gouverneur durch ein oder mehrere Wörter getrennt, die seinen Gouverneur dominieren. Zwei Arten der Extraposition werden in der theoretischen Syntax anerkannt: Standardfälle, bei denen die Extraposition optional ist und die Extraposition, wo die Extraposition obligatorisch ist. Die Extraposition ist zum Teil durch den Wunsch motiviert, die mittlere Einbettung zu reduzieren, indem sie die Rechtsverzweigung erhöht und damit die Verarbeitung erleichtert, wobei die eingebetteten Strukturen schwieriger zu verarbeiten sind. Die Extraposition erfolgt häufig in Englisch und verwandten Sprachen.
