Funktor
In der Mathematik ist ein Funktor eine Art von Mapping zwischen Kategorien, die in der Kategorie Theorie angewendet wird. Funktoren können als Homomorphismen zwischen Kategorien gedacht werden. In der Kategorie der kleinen Kategorien können Funktoren allgemeiner als Morphismen betrachtet werden. Funktoren wurden zuerst in der algebraischen Topologie betrachtet, wo algebraische Objekte mit topologischen Räumen assoziiert sind und algebraische Homomorphismen mit kontinuierlichen Karten assoziiert sind. Heutzutage werden Funktoren in der modernen Mathematik verwendet, um verschiedene Kategorien zu verknüpfen. So sind die Funktoren generell in Bereichen innerhalb der Mathematik anwendbar, die Kategorie-Theorie kann eine Abstraktion von machen. Der Wortschleier wurde von Mathematikern des Philosophen Rudolf Carnap geliehen, der den Begriff in einem sprachlichen Kontext benutzte: siehe Funktionswort.
