Es bildet auch eine feste Lösungsreihe mit dem nativen Element Silber, auf das es oft natürlich legiert ist. Andere gemeinsame natürliche Goldlegierungen sind mit Kupfer und Palladium. Gold widersteht Angriffen durch einzelne Säuren, aber es kann von aqua regia aufgelöst werden, so genannt, weil es Gold auflöst. Gold löst sich auch in alkalischen Lösungen von Cyanid, die im Bergbau verwendet wurden.
