Gorget
Ein Gorget / ɡɔrdʒɨt /, von der französischen Schlucht, die Kehle bedeutete, war ursprünglich eine Bande von Leinen, die um eine Frau den Hals und den Kopf in der mittelalterlichen Periode oder den unteren Teil einer einfachen Chaperon Kapuze gewickelt. Der Begriff beschreibt später einen Stahl- oder Lederhalsband, der zum Schutz des Halses, eines Satzes von Plattenpanzer oder eines einzigen Stückes der Plattenpanzerung, die vom Hals hängt und den Hals und die Brust bedeckt, beschrieben hat. Später, besonders ab dem 18. Jahrhundert, wurde der Gorget vorwiegend ornamental und diente nur als symbolisches Accessoire für militärische Uniformen, ein Gebrauch, der in einigen Armeen den heutigen Tag überlebt hat. Der Begriff kann auch von anderen Dingen verwendet werden, wie etwa Schmuckstücke, die um die Halsregion in einer Anzahl von anderen Kulturen getragen werden, zum Beispiel breite dünne Goldkragen, die in Irland aus der Bronzezeit gefunden wurden.
