Latein ist eine alte kursive Sprache, die ursprünglich von den kursiven Lateinern in Latium und dem antiken Rom gesprochen wurde. Darüber hinaus sprechen viele Studenten, Gelehrte und einige Mitglieder des christlichen Klerus fließend, und es wird immer noch in einigen primären, sekundären und postsekundären Bildungseinrichtungen auf der ganzen Welt unterrichtet. Latein wird immer noch in der Schaffung neuer Wörter in modernen Sprachen vieler verschiedener Familien, einschließlich Englisch, und weitgehend in der biologischen Taxonomie verwendet.
