Loire
Die Loire ist der längste Fluss Frankreichs. Mit einer Länge von 1.012 Kilometern fließt es eine Fläche von 117.054 km2 oder mehr als ein Fünftel der französischen Landfläche und ist der 170. längste Fluss der Welt. Es erhebt sich im Hochland des südöstlichen Viertels des Massif Central im Cévennes-Gebiet auf 1.350 m in der Nähe von Mont Gerbier de Jonc; Es fließt nach Norden über 1.000 km durch Nevers nach Orléans, dann nach Westen durch Tours und Nantes bis es die Bucht von Biskaya in St. Nazaire erreicht. Zu den wichtigsten Nebenflüssen gehören die Nièvre, Maine und die Erdre Flüsse am rechten Ufer und die Allier, Cher, Indre, Vienne und die Sèvre Nantaise Flüsse zum linken Ufer. Die Loire nennt sich sechs Départements: Loire, Haute-Loire, Loire-Atlantique, Indre-et-Loire, Maine-et-Loire und Saône-et-Loire. Der zentrale Teil des Loire-Tals wurde am 2. Dezember 2000 in die Liste der UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe aufgenommen. Die Banken zeichnen sich durch Weingüter und Schlösser im Loire-Tal aus.
