Ein Pager ist ein drahtloses Telekommunikationsgerät, das numerische oder Textnachrichten empfängt und anzeigt oder Sprachnachrichten empfängt und ankündigt. Einweg-Pager können nur Nachrichten empfangen, während Antwort-Pager und Zwei-Wege-Pager auch Nachrichten mit einem internen Sender quittieren, beantworten und ausstellen können. Pagers betreiben als Teil eines Paging-Systems, das einen oder mehrere feste Sender sowie eine Anzahl von Pagers enthält, die von mobilen Benutzern getragen werden. Diese Systeme können von einem Restaurant-System mit einem einzigen Low-Power-Sender bis hin zu einem bundesweiten System mit Tausenden von Hochleistungs-Basisstationen reichen.
