Wahrnehmung
Wahrnehmung ist die Organisation, Identifizierung und Interpretation von sensorischen Informationen, um die Umwelt zu vertreten und zu verstehen. Alle Wahrnehmung beinhaltet Signale im Nervensystem, die wiederum aus der physischen oder chemischen Stimulation der Sinnesorgane resultieren. Zum Beispiel beinhaltet die Vision das Licht, das auf die Netzhaut des Auges schlägt, der Geruch wird durch Geruchsmoleküle vermittelt, und das Hören beinhaltet Druckwellen. Wahrnehmung ist nicht der passive Empfang dieser Signale, sondern ist geprägt durch Lernen, Gedächtnis, Erwartung und Aufmerksamkeit. Die Wahrnehmung beinhaltet diese "Top-down" -Effekte sowie den "Bottom-up" -Prozess der Verarbeitung sensorischen Inputs. Die "bottom-up" -Verarbeitung verwandelt Low-Level-Informationen in übergeordnete Informationen. Die "top-down" -Verarbeitung bezieht sich auf das Konzept und die Erwartungen einer Person und auf selektive Mechanismen, die die Wahrnehmung beeinflussen. Die Wahrnehmung hängt von den komplexen Funktionen des Nervensystems ab, aber subjektiv scheint meistens mühelos, weil diese Verarbeitung außerhalb des bewussten Bewusstseins geschieht. Seit dem Aufstieg der experimentellen Psychologie im 19. Jahrhundert ist das Wahrnehmungsverständnis der Psychologie durch die Kombination einer Vielzahl von Techniken fortgeschritten.
