Sozialität ist der Grad, in dem Einzelpersonen in einer Tierpopulation dazu neigen, in gesellschaftlichen Gruppen zu assoziieren und Genossenschaften zu bilden. Sozialität ist eine Überlebensreaktion auf den evolutionären Druck. Zum Beispiel, wenn eine Mutter Wespe bleibt in der Nähe ihrer Larven im Nest, sind Parasiten weniger wahrscheinlich, die Larven zu essen. Biologen vermuten, dass Druck von Parasiten und anderen Raubtieren dieses Verhalten in Wespen der Familie Vespidae ausgewählt. Der höchste Grad der von den Soziobiologen anerkannten Sozialität ist die Eusocialität. Ein eusociales Taxon ist eines, das übergreifende erwachsene Generationen, reproduktive Arbeitsteilung, kooperative Versorgung junger und - in den raffiniertesten Fällen - ein biologisches Kastensystem aufweist.
