Streptococcus
Streptococcus ist eine Gattung von sphärischen Gram-positiven Bakterien, die zu den Phylum Firmicutes und der Milchsäurebakteriengruppe gehören. Die zelluläre Teilung tritt auf einer einzigen Achse in diesen Bakterien auf, und so wachsen sie in Ketten oder Paaren, daher der Name - von griechischen στρεπτός streptos, was leicht gebeugt oder verdreht, wie eine Kette. Kontrastieren Sie dies mit Staphylokokken, die sich entlang mehrerer Achsen teilen und traubenartige Zellcluster erzeugen. Die meisten Streptokokken sind Oxidase- und Katalase-negativ, und viele sind fakultative Anaerobier.
