Schwert
Ein Schwert ist eine Waffe, die hauptsächlich zum Schneiden oder Stoßen verwendet wird. Das Wort Schwert stammt aus dem altdeutschen Schwert, der aus einer Proto-Indoeuropäischen Wurzel schwindet, altnordisch säubert, "zu wunden, zu schneiden". Nicht-europäische Waffen, die "Schwert" genannt werden, umfassen einkantige Waffen wie das Nahöstliche, das Chinesische Dao und das verwandte japanische Katana. Der chinesische Jian ist ein Beispiel für ein außereuropäisches zweischneidiges Schwert, wie die europäischen Modelle aus dem zweischneidigen Eisenzeitschwert. Historisch entwickelte sich das Schwert in der Bronzezeit und entwickelte sich aus dem Dolch; Die frühesten Exemplare sind auf ca. 1600 v.Chr. Das Eisenzeitschwert blieb ziemlich kurz und ohne Kreuzschutz.
