WAS BEDEUTET SYMPHONY AUF ENGLISCH
Symphonie

I learned from my uncle that jazz, like symphony music, was built to last.
It was really amazing. I mean, he'd never mentioned that he played in the symphony, like serious violin playing, not fiddle playing. And he just blew us away.
Not everyone can write a book or paint a picture or write a symphony, but almost anyone can fall in love. There is something almost miraculous in that.
And over the last ten years, after my work with the Brodsky Quartet, I had the opportunity to write arrangements for chamber group, chamber orchestra, jazz orchestra, symphony orchestra even.
As a composer and as a musician I'm a true believer - and this is not to be overly diplomatic - I'm a believer that there's artistry in everything from a lawn gnome to a desk chair to a symphony to an Andy Warhol painting. There's art in absolutely everything.
I'm like any other composer. If you give me five years to write a symphony, I'm still going to be asking for more time two days before it's due.
To practice your scales, so to speak, in order play the symphony, is what you have to do as a young poet.
It's a physical challenge. It's a spiritual challenge. I'm studying almost every day a different symphony, not returning to any one for a week.
I don't see myself necessarily having a burning desire to write a symphony.
