In der Mineralogie und Kristallographie ist eine Kristallstruktur eine einzigartige Anordnung von Atomen oder Molekülen in einer kristallinen Flüssigkeit oder Feststoff. Eine Kristallstruktur beschreibt eine hochgeordnete Struktur, die aufgrund der intrinsischen Natur von Molekülen zur Bildung symmetrischer Muster auftritt. Eine Kristallstruktur kann als eine unendlich wiederholende Anordnung von 3D-Boxen betrachtet werden, die als Einheitszellen bekannt sind. Die Einheitszelle wird aus der einfachsten Darstellung von Molekülen berechnet, die als asymmetrische Einheit bekannt ist. Die asymmetrische Einheit wird durch Symmetrieoperationen in die Einheitszelle übersetzt und das resultierende Kristallgitter wird durch Wiederholung der Einheitszelle unendlich in 3-Dimensionen aufgebaut. Muster sind auf den Punkten eines Gitters angeordnet, die ein Array von Punkten ist, die sich periodisch in drei Dimensionen wiederholen. Die Längen der Kanten einer Einheitszelle und die Winkel zwischen ihnen werden die Gitterparameter genannt. Die Symmetrieeigenschaften des Kristalls sind in seiner Raumgruppe verkörpert.
