Amphotericin B polyenisches Antibiotikum. Es ist für Bakterien ungültig, hat aber ein breites antimikrobielles Wirkungsspektrum gegen Pilze. Es wirkt, indem es die Zellwandpermeabilität der Bakterien und die auslaufenden intrazellulären Komponenten verändert. Es gibt Toleranz und es gibt eine Kreuzresistenz zwischen Nystatin. Wegen der schlechten Absorption aus dem Verdauungstrakt wird es auf intensive Pilzinfektionen wie Candidiasis durch intravenöse Injektion angewendet. Die lokale Anwendung bei oberflächlichen Pilzinfektionen ist ebenfalls wirksam. Nebenwirkungen, Reizreaktionen sind groß und führen zu Nieren- oder Phlebitis.
