In der Biologie ist die Gattung eine Gruppe in der Klassifikation von lebenden Organismen, die mehr als eine Spezies haben, die hinsichtlich der Morphologie ähnlich sind. In der regulären binomischen Nomenklatur besteht der Name des Organismus aus seinen Gattungs- und Speziesspezifizierern. Der Gattungsname in einem Universum kann derselbe sein wie die Gattung oder ein anderer Taxonname in einer anderen Welt. Zum Beispiel ist Anura eine Pflanzengattung und auch eine Froschregel; Aotus ist eine Nuss und ein Affe.
