Azeka ist eine biblische Stadt im Nordosten von Juda auf dem Weg von der Küste bis zum judäischen Hochland. In der Nähe von Azeka gab es eine Straße nach Bethlehem im Tal von Bethlehem. Die Stadt ist mit dem heutigen Tell Zakarie identifiziert. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts begannen die archäologischen Ausgrabungen bei Tell Zakarie. Jahrhundert vor Christus. Die Stadt war ein Element der Festung der Judy-Linie. Es war von einer Mauer umgeben und von Türmen befestigt. In schriftlichen Quellen wurde die Stadt im vierten Brief von Lakish erwähnt, der beweist, dass es für Juda von strategischer Bedeutung war. Der Verlust der Position nach der Einnahme durch die Babylonier wird durch wenige Funde aus der persischen und hellenistischen Zeit belegt. Während der Herrschaft von Saul am Ende des elften Jahrhunderts p.n.e. Gemäß 1. Samuel bei Azeka in Richtung Soko versammelten sich die Philister, um einen Krieg mit Israel zu beginnen.

W źródłach pisanych miasto zostało wzmiankowane w czwartym liście z Lakisz, co dowodzi, że miało ważne znaczenie strategiczne dla Judy. O utracie pozycji po zdobyciu go przez Babilończyków świadczą nieliczne znaleziska z okresu perskiego i hellenistycznego. Za panowania Saula pod koniec XI wieku p.n.e. według 1 Księgi Samuela nieopodal Azeki w kierunku Soko Filistyni gromadzili swoje siły, aby rozpocząć wojnę z Izraelem.
