Pierre-Joseph Proudhon - Französischer Politiker, Ökonom, Soziologe und Journalist. Als der Vater des Anarchismus, als das erste vorgeschlagene System nannte er Anarchie und sich selbst Anarchist. Er legte den Grundstein für den anarchistischen Individualismus, griff den Staat, die Kirche und das kapitalistische System heftig an. Er befürwortete sozialen Wandel durch Reformen, nicht durch Revolution, sie würden allmählich zu einer klassenlosen und staatenlosen Gesellschaft führen. Proudhon kämpfte kapitalistisches Eigentum, das er mit Diebstahl identifizierte, wie er in seinem Aufsatz "Was ist Eigentum?" - "Eigentum ist Diebstahl"; Seiner Meinung nach legitimierte das Eigentum nur Arbeit. In dem Buch Die Bekenntnisse eines Revolutionärs verkündet er unter anderem "Anarchie ist Ordnung". Proudhon versuchte eine Nullzinsbank zu gründen. Er baute die Grundlagen für ein gegenseitiges Assistenzsystem, dessen Grundsätze bis heute in Gegenseitigkeitsversicherungen genutzt werden. Karol Marks antwortete auf seinen Essay Philosophy of Misery auf das berühmte: Misery of Philosophy.

Zbudował podstawy systemu pomocy wzajemnej, którego zasady są do dziś stosowane w zakładach ubezpieczeń wzajemnych. Na jego esej Filozofia nędzy Karol Marks odpowiedział słynnym: Nędza filozofii.
