Stras - eine synthetische Diamantimitation aus gemahlenem Glas, Acrylglas oder immer weniger Bergkristall, dessen untere Wände mit einer Substanz bedeckt sind, die das Glühen und andere ästhetische Eigenschaften verbessert. Der Name stammt vom Erfinder des algerischen Juweliers aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, Georg Friedrich Straße, der das Metall auf die Unterseite des gemahlenen Glases gegossen hat. Stras zeichnet sich durch hohes Licht und hohe Helligkeit aus, aber diese Parameter sind schlechter als die Parameter, die die echten Diamanten charakterisieren. Auch die Kratzfestigkeit und damit die Haltbarkeit ist viel niedriger als die ursprünglichen Edelsteine. Der größte Hersteller von Stras ist derzeit das österreichische Unternehmen Swarovski, das unter dem Markennamen "Swarovski crystal", Elite Crystals und der tschechischen Preciosa Riemen anbietet.

Stras – syntetyczna imitacja diamentu wykonana z oszlifowanego szkła, szkła akrylowego lub, coraz rzadziej, kryształu górskiego, którego dolne ścianki zostały pokryte substancją poprawiającą blask i inne walory estetyczne. Nazwa pochodzi od wynalazcy, XVIII-wiecznego alzackiego jubilera, Georga Friedricha Strassa, który napylał metal na spodnią stronę oszlifowanego szkła ołowiowego. Stras cechuje się wysokim blaskiem oraz wysoką łamliwością światła, jednak parametry te są gorsze od parametrów, które charakteryzują prawdziwe diamenty. Również odporność na zarysowania, a zatem i trwałość, są dużo niższe niż w oryginalnych kamieniach szlachetnych. Obecnie największym producentem strasu jest austriacka firma Swarovski, oferująca stras pod nazwą handlową "kryształ Swarovskiego", Elite Crystals oraz czeska firma Preciosa.
