CLIPS für C Language Integrated Production System, ein Werkzeug für die von Charles Forgy entwickelt von der NASA in den 1980er Jahren Syntax und Namen entwickelte Expertensysteme Aufbau wurden von OPS (Produktionssystem offiziell in Englisch Official Production System) inspiriert. Die ersten Versionen von CLIPS wurden im Jahr 1984 bei der NASA-Johnson Space Center entwickeln Start (als Alternative zum bestehenden System ART * Inference genannt) bis in den frühen 1990er Jahren, als die Subvention wegen der Probleme des Bundeshaushalt zu Ende, und eine Ordnung, nach der NASA ich hatte kommerzielle Software zu kaufen, anstatt sie zu entwickeln.
