Apogamy is a botanical term in the field of "non-sexual reproduction", which has been defined differently and is still not used uniformly today. Anton de Bary took the term very far and applied it to all cases in which "a species is lost to sexual reproduction and replaced by a different reproduction process". Hans Winkler introduced the term Apomixis in 1906 and defined apogamy as an "apomictic generation of a sporophyte from vegetative cells of the gametophyte." In 1904, Eduard Strasburger distinguished between parthenogenesis and apogamy for the first time, the first term being a development of the ice without a reduction, The apogamy should refer to such a reduction division. Carl Correns accepted this separation at the time, but remarked that a description of the overriding phenomenon or the phenomenon of reduction as parthenogenesis would have been more favorable. As you can see, Strasbuger's definition has little to do with the Winklers, since these are just reproductive processes without meiosis.

Hans Winkler führte 1906 dafür den Terminus Apomixis ein und definierte Apogamie neu als „apomiktische Erzeugung eines Sporophyten aus vegetativen Zellen des Gametophyten.“ Im Jahr 1904 unterschied Eduard Strasburger erstmals zwischen Parthenogenesis und Apogamie, indem der erste Begriff eine Entwicklung des Eis ohne eine Reduktionsteilung, die Apogamie eine solche mit Reduktionsteilung bezeichnen sollte. Carl Correns akzeptierte damals diese Trennung, bemerkte aber, dass eine Bezeichnung des übergeordneten Phänomens oder des Phänomens mit Reduktionsteilung als Parthenogenesis günstiger gewesen wäre. Wie man sieht, hat Strasbugers Definition wenig mit der Winklers zu tun, da diese ja gerade Fortpflanzungsvorgänge ohne Meiose betrifft.
