Codon

Genetic code

Genetischer Code

The genetic code is a rule by which triple groups of consecutive nucleobases - called triplets or codons, which are located in nucleic acids - are translated into amino acids. This translation, called translation, takes place in the binding of amino acids to various transfer ribonucleic acids by which the amino acids are arranged or activated for their assembly into proteins. The transfer ribonucleic acids differ by their nucleotide triplet, which is located at a prominent molecular site, which consists of three nucleotides corresponding to the nucleotides of a particular codon, that is to say form a three-membered anticodon. Codon and anticodon are specific to each other and are assigned a specific amino acid according to the genetic code. To each transfer ribonucleic acid the amino acid is bound, for which the codon which corresponds to the anticodon of the tRNA stands.
