The Code civil is the French Code of Civil Law introduced by Napoleon Bonaparte on March 21, 1804. With the code civil, Napoleon created a major law-making system of modern times. In France it is still valid today in essential parts. It should not be confused with the code pénal published in 1810, in which the criminal code is codified. In the areas occupied or influenced by Napoleon, both and the other Cinq codes were mostly introduced, even though the Code civil is usually mentioned.

Der Code civil ist das französische Gesetzbuch zum Zivilrecht, das durch Napoleon Bonaparte am 21. März 1804 eingeführt wurde. Mit dem Code civil schuf Napoleon ein bedeutendes Gesetzeswerk der Neuzeit. In Frankreich ist es in wesentlichen Teilen noch heute gültig. Er sollte nicht mit dem in 1810 erschienenen Code pénal verwechselt werden, in dem das Strafrecht kodifiziert ist. In den von Napoleon besetzten oder beeinflussten Gebieten wurden meist beide und auch die anderen der Cinq Codes eingeführt, auch wenn meist nur der Code civil erwähnt wird.
