dimerization

Dimerisation

Dimerization is a special form of polymerization. The term dimerization is often used in German-language literature. It is the assembly of two units, which are called monomers. These may be atoms or molecules. This process produces a dimer, either a homodimer when two monomers of the same kind are joined together, or a heterodimer when two different monomers are involved. If three or more molecules or atoms are joined together, trimerization, tetramerization, etc. are called trimerization, tetramere, etc.
