enzyme

Enzym

An enzyme, early ferment, is a substance that can catalyze one or more biochemical reactions. Almost all enzymes are proteins, with the exception of catalytically active RNA, E.g. snRNA. Their formation in the cell is therefore, as with other proteins, via protein biosynthesis on the ribosomes. Enzymes have important functions in the metabolism of organisms: they control the predominant part of biochemical reactions - from digestion to transcription and replication of genetic information.
