As a humanoid, lifeforms and machines with a human or human-like appearance are classified in science fiction. Humanoids are characterized, among other things, by the fact that they primarily use an upright gait on two legs for the movement which, in contrast to avoids, are bent in the forward direction by way of an articulation. Furthermore, they always have a torso as a central element, on which the two legs, at least one head and arms are located and whose general skeletal structure largely corresponds to that of a human being. The humanoid attribute is a product of science fiction literature. In contrast to humanoids, the term "humanoid" was used as a hominid in the development of the human race.

Als humanoid werden in der Science-Fiction Lebensformen und Maschinen klassifiziert, die ein menschliches oder menschenähnliches Erscheinungsbild aufweisen. Charakterisiert werden Humanoide unter anderem dadurch, dass sie primär einen aufrechten Gang auf zwei Beinen für die Fortbewegung nutzen, welche immer – im Gegensatz zu Avoiden – in Laufrichtung nach vorn über ein Gelenk eingeknickt werden. Des Weiteren besitzen sie immer einen Torso als zentrales Element, an dem sich die zwei Beine, mindestens ein Kopf und Arme befinden und deren allgemeine Skelettstruktur weitestgehend der eines Menschen entspricht. Das Attribut humanoid ist ein Produkt der Science-Fiction-Literatur. Im Gegensatz zu Humanoide bezeichnete man bei dessen Wortbildung alle entwicklungsgeschichtlich zu den Menschen gehörenden Arten als Hominide, in der Zeit als Menschen und Menschenaffen noch in zwei unterschiedlichen Familien geführt wurden.
