Low Church

Low Church

Low Church is the contrast to High Church in Anglicanism. It is, first of all, a theologically expressed expression, which corresponds to the "high" H. Sacramental and episcopal concept of the Catholic High Church, a rather Protestant-Calvinistic view of the Church. According to this, the Church itself is not really an object of faith, but only a consequence of the preaching of the gospel. The actual mode of being of the Church is not the world-historical and global, but the local and communal, H. the community. More important than the faith of the Church, its liturgy and its dogmas are the faithfulness of the individual Christians and their way of life. The concepts of conversion and rebirth often play a role, but not everywhere. Low Church can also be emphasized openly and ethnically.
