WHAT DOES MISRACH MEAN IN GERMAN?

Misrach

Misrach is the Hebrew name for the East, derived from the tribe זרח. It is, probably coming from Sephardian tradition, the heavenly direction in which the pious Jew bowed to prayer, similar to the Qibla قبلة of the Muslims. In order to avoid the appearance of a sun worship, it is recommended to deviate some degrees from the eastern direction. What is meant is not the east as the rise of light, as it is understood in Western Christianity, for example, the ex-oriente lux, but the Jerusalem temple as a place of sacrifice. Many houses have a small carpet, a drawing, etching, etc., with the inscription מזרח, which can be used to orient oneself in his prayers. This contains divine names, illustrations of the temple in Jerusalem or of the Temple Mount, or a menorah.
