Pannus

Pannus are tattered clouds, sometimes forming a coherent layer, beneath a different cloud with which they can sometimes be connected. These accompanying clouds are mostly found in Altostratus, Nimbostratus, Cumulus and Cumulonimbus. Nimbostratus pannus is a companion of Nimbostratus. It is produced by evaporating and condensing rain and announces early rain. It can also be observed during a long-running rain, so-called "Landregen", when a warm front is passed through.
