Phloem

The phloem or the sieve part is that part of a vascular bundle in vascular plants which comprises the sieve elements, ie the assimilating cells, and the parenchymal and strengthening cells accompanying them. In trees, the active phloem is often referred to as bast. The most important substances transported are sugars and amino acids. They are transported from the places of their production to the places of consumption. The vascular bundles and thus also the phloem pass through all organs of the plants. The transport takes place in special cells within the phloem: the sieve limbs in the case of overcrowded cells, or the sieve cells in the other vascular plants. The members of the breeders form a functional unit with the trolley cells, whereby the transport takes place in the sieve tubes and the cells are responsible for the metabolism. According to its main function, the phloem is divided into three sections: the phloem loading takes place in the collecting pellet, mostly in the small vascular bundles of photosynthetically active leaves.
