polyploidy

Polyploidie

Polyploidy is the term used in biology to describe the phenomenon observed in some species of having more than two sets of chromosomes in the cells. In some other species, polyploidy occurs only in single cells. A simple set of chromosomes contains every chromosome once, a double chromosome set twice. From three sets of chromosomes is called polyploidy: ▪ triploid: three sets of chromosomes, for example in some water bears and rare in amphibians ▪ tetraploid: four sets of chromosomes, such as trout fishing ▪ hexaploid: six sets of chromosomes, such as when seeding ▪ octoploid: eight sets of chromosomes, for example, in some troublemakers ▪ dekaploid: ten sets of chromosomes, such as strawberries ▪ dodecaploid twelve sets of chromosomes, for example when Celosia argentea in an even set of chromosomes is called Orthoploidie in an odd set of Anorthoploidie. The origin of the polyploidy of an organism has its cause in meiosis in the chromosome duplication.
