WHAT DOES PRIMARY MEAN IN GERMAN?
Primary
The Primary is a party-led process by the major parties in the United States to establish the candidates for public offices within a party. The procedure is applied only in a part of the American states, in particular to the election of the presidential candidates. It was introduced to promote democratic transparency within the parties. The primaries take place in the period from January to June of the election year. Formally, the presidential candidates do not elect the presidential candidate, but delegates for the federal party convention, the national convention in the summer. However, the delegates are then usually assigned to a particular candidate. As a result, the result of the nomination is often already in the middle of the pre-election season. To prevent a possible loss of reputation in the public due to sprawling discussions, the primaries have been concentrated on a few days. In some states of the USA, there is no primary but a caucus.
Definition of Primary in the German dictionary
