It is a "bead-shaped" surface with a "hole", which has the shape of a rescue ring, tire or donut. Specific examples in the three-dimensional space of embedded Tori are the rotational states, which are examples of rotational surfaces. They are obtained by rotating a circle about an axis. This is, therefore, the set of points which have a fixed distance from a circle with radius. If one rotates not only the circle, but the entire circle, a full torus is obtained. Another way of constructing a torus is by identifying the sides of a rectangle. The right edge of the rectangle is attached with its left edge and the upper edge with the lower edge. This topology also uses many computer games: If a game object leaves the playing field on one side, it reappears on the opposite side.

Er ist eine "wulstartig geformte" Fläche mit einem "Loch", die also die Gestalt eines Rettungsrings, Reifens oder Donuts hat. Spezielle Beispiele im dreidimensionalen Raum eingebetteter Tori sind die Rotationstori, die Beispiele für Rotationsflächen sind. Man erhält sie, indem man einen Kreis um eine Achse rotieren läßt. Es handelt sich also um die Menge der Punkte, die von einer Kreislinie mit Radius den festen Abstand haben, wobei sein muß. Falls man nicht nur den Kreis, sondern die gesamte Kreisfläche rotieren läßt, erhält man einen Volltorus. Eine andere Möglichkeit der Konstruktion eines Torus ist durch Identifizieren der Seiten eines Rechtecks. Dabei wird die rechte Kante des Rechtecks mit seiner linken Kante und die obere mit der unteren Kante verheftet. Diese Topologie benutzen auch viele Computerspiele: Verlässt ein Spielobjekt auf einer Seite das Spielfeld, so taucht es auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite wieder auf.
