Afrikaners are a Southern African ethnic group descended from predominantly[11] Dutch settlers first arriving in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. They have traditionally dominated South Africa's politics and agriculture.[6] Some of the more common Afrikaner surnames include Botha, Pretorius, and van der Merwe.
